The South Carolina Legacy Over-Under Shotgun
Nestled along the eastern shore of the Atlantic coast, South Carolina is a region rich in heritage and American pride. Settled by the English in 1670, South Carolina became the eighth state to ratify the U.S. Constitution in 1788.
When the American Revolution began, South Carolina joined with the thirteen American colonies in declaring their independence from Britain. Intense fighting took place in South Carolina including major battles at King’s Mountain and Cowpens that helped to turn the tide of the war. More Revolutionary battles were fought on South Carolina soil than any other state during the war.
South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Union and was the site of the “first shots” of the Civil War. On April 12th, 1861, Davis would order Beauregard to take Fort Sumter, and a flaming mortar would be seen exploding over Fort Sumter signaling Confederate forces before a three-day battle would commence. Confederate forces would eventually claim the Fort, and the Civil War had begun.
The night of February 17th, 1864, the Confederate submarine H. L. Hunley attacked and sank the USS Housatonic off the coast of Charleston. She then mysteriously vanished with her crew of eight. That night, history was made as the Hunley became the first submarine ever to sink an enemy ship.
The palmetto tree has been an important icon of South Carolina since the American Revolutionary War. When the British attacked a fort on Sullivan’s Island, near Charleston, the cannonballs bounced off the spongy palmetto logs used to build the exterior wall. Featured on both the state flag and seal, the Palmetto is a symbol as easily identified in South Carolina as the beautiful coastline.
Enriched with prominent people, places, and landmarks, South Carolina is revered for its distinguished pride, indomitable character, and unbridled spirit. Whether your family settled here in previous generations, or you’ve sunk your own roots into this very special place, this shotgun has been designed with you in mind. No matter where you are from in South Carolina it holds true that this is a region with a proud heritage and enduring legacy!
