None of these truths were “self-evident,” because no nation in the world lived by them at the time. Brave men and women had to fight and die for them some 250 years ago.

America’s servicemen and women have fought countless battles to keep our country safe from tyranny and terror. Defending freedom in wars and conflicts from the Revolution through the War of 1812, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, Operations Desert Shield and Storm and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The American nation was carved out of the vast frontier by the toughest, strongest, fiercest and most determined men and women to walk on the face of the earth. Our ancestors braved the unknown; settled the Wild West; lifted millions from poverty, disease and hunger; vanquished tyranny and fascism; and ushered the world to new and spectacular heights.
We are Americans, we are pioneers, we are the pathfinders, we settled the New World, we built the modern world, and we changed history forever by embracing the eternal truth that everyone is made equal by the almighty hand of God.
Our ancestors built the most exceptional republic ever to exist in human history. This is our glorious and magnificent inheritance. We aim to honor our heritage, reflect on our past, strengthen our love of country, and renew our commitment to the ideals of democracy that unite us as one.
