The Wahpeton ND 150th Anniversary Rifle
Located in the heart of southeastern North Dakota, Wahpeton lies at the confluence of one of America’s greatest catfish-producing rivers, the Red River of the North. As a once lush hunting ground for Native Americans the region gradually became a destination for settlers and pioneers headed further into the interior. Morgan T. Rich was the first settler, and with his plow he turned the first furrow of black bottomland soil in 1869. The arrival of the railroad along with the flatboat building industry brought big business to Wahpeton. Flatboats carried freight directly from the railroad downriver to northern parts of the state, as business boomed so too did the rapid development and growth to the town. Known for its close-knit community, strong work ethic and conservative values, Wahpeton is a city rich in heritage and American pride.
