“I would like to see every woman know how to handle firearms as naturally as they know how to handle babies.” – Annie Oakley[su_spacer size=”10″] During the 19th century, there weren’t many women who were considered superstars, especially in show business. However, one woman was able to change all that. Her name was Phoebe Ann Moses, but most people knew her as Annie Oakley.
Born in Darke County, Ohio in 1860, Annie was an ambidextrous shot who fired with incredible accuracy since childhood. Although she wasn’t born a cowgirl, she played that Western role better than most men. Thanks to her sharpshooting skills, Annie eventually caught the attention of larger-than-life showman, Buffalo Bill Cody. She joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show in 1885. Annie entertained thousands of people for sixteen seasons! When she retired, Annie didn’t stop shooting and wanted to educate women about firearms. Annie taught over 10,000 women how to shoot a gun, and she still serves as a role model in shooting sports today.
American Legacy Firearms is proud to present the Annie Oakley Rifle into the Gunfighter Series! Annie proudly owned a ’73, and it was given to her by Buffalo Bill Cody. The Annie Oakley Rifle is built on an 1873 Winchester with a walnut stock, similar to the rifle she owned herself. The engravings on the metal and wood depict important people and events throughout Annie’s incredible life, emphasizing what made her so unique. This 24 karat gold-plated firearm is fully-functional, and it comes in 3 calibers: 45 Colt, .357 Mag/.38 Spcl, and .44-40 Win.
